How do I know if I have really turned my life over to God?

Hey Gang. A Starbucks friend - who is also a fan of the blog - gave me this question a couple of week ago when I was making my 5AMish coffee run with Bex (my baby boy).

How do I know if I have really turned my life over to God? What are the indicators that I have achieved this or not?

Great question. It can be difficult to know if we have done enough to connect to God. In fact as we read thru Scripture we are not given too much confidence that we can really connect with God. Paul states straightforwardly in Romans 3:10-12 “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”

So, what is it gang? How do you know that you have turned your life over to God?

  1. In many ways...this question is unanswerable and leads us into the great face of Faith. We simply march on, engaging in daily reflection, meditation and prayer...with faith that our clearest direction will shine forth. The key indicators may then be perceived as Grace, Peace and Harmony in our daily lives. If we simply show up for daily life in constant Faith, God's mirror will reflect back to us whether or not our path is the 'righteous' one. I believe God's intelligence is perfect and omnipresent, we must simply learn to align ourselves with His message. Akin to tuning into the blissful resonance of God, Christ's consciousness and the Holy Spirit. The Trinity as symbolic of perfectly aligned intelligence. Therefore, one can see clearly through the tri-lense of His reflection in our lives. The checks and balances offered via The Holy Trinity, being our greatest teacher, source and guide. This I do believe***See you @ Starbux: )MB***

  2. thanks, mary! i really like how you have integrated the role of Trinity into how we love and follow Christ on a daily basis....

i've been thinking about your question and wonder if it ought to be answered in at least too parts. first, there is the initial 'turning your life over to God' and i am curious what that looked liked for you. in other words, as a faithful catholic, what did it look like to become a christian? i think this initial bit is important because how we first turn to Christ sort of sets the pattern for how we continue to follow after him...

the verse i quoted above from paul highlights that we come to Christ not based on our own merits but on the merits of Jesus - his perfection, his works, etc..., alone. so the foundation of our pursuit of Jesus isn't really based on our spiritually but on rather on Jesus and his work....
