I think the point on how even English today is transforming is good.
That is what makes this all so difficult. Culture and times change, and we need the Bible to keep up.
That is why I love footnotes. In my ESV under "Thou shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13) it says, "The Hebrew word also covers causing human death through carelessness or negligence". Footnotes can help explain those difficult words, and instead of 'compromising' the text they can further explain it.
So who comes up with the footnotes? Is it the same people editing the book, or less people? Or does it depend on the print.
good question, i think it just depends on which bible your reading. i know that the esv study bible lists all the scholars who wrote the notes in which book(s)
